Whittier, Alaska

The Buckner Building in Whittier has always been a destination I dreamed of visiting. Finally, I had the chance to make this dream a reality, and it was truly an eye-opening experience. Seeing something in person that I had previously only read and watched shows about was a unique and unforgettable experience. It made me appreciate the power and beauty of traveling and exploring new places even more.

Furthermore, relying solely on media depictions can also lead to a skewed and biased understanding of certain places or events. It is important to have a firsthand experience in order to form a well-rounded and accurate perception. Therefore, while media can provide valuable information and insights, it should not be the only source of knowledge when it comes to understanding the world around us.

Between 1946 and 1960, the United States Air Force conducted aerial reconnaissance flights over the Soviet Union in order to determine the size, composition, and disposition of Soviet forces.

The Eskimo Scouts of World War II
The Alaska Territorial Guard (ATG) or the Eskimo Scouts was a reserve component of the US Army that was established in 1942 in response to attacks by the Japanese on United States soil in Hawaii during World War II and the occupation of two Aleutian Islands by the Japanese during World War II. In the course of its existence, the ATG operated until 1947. The number of volunteers was around 20,000, of which some were enrolled from 107 ethnic groups in the region, and many of them served without a pay.

This remarkable achievement by the native units highlights the inclusive and diverse nature of these groups, as well as the high level of skill and expertise among their members. The fact that women were able to surpass men in rifle shooting skills is a testament to the equal opportunities and recognition given to all members. It is also worth noting that members of all ages, from 12 to 80, were able to excel in these units, further demonstrating the inclusivity and merit-based nature of their organization. As volunteers, the Alaska Territorial Guard members were those that were too young or too old to be drafted during WWII.

They also played a crucial role in relaying weather and emergency information to remote communities. This volunteer force was essential in protecting and serving the people of Alaska during World War II and the Cold War.

                                                          1790-1890
Portage Pass was mainly used for the Russian Priest.

However, the construction of a railroad in the early 1900s created an alternative and more efficient route, making Portage Pass less frequently used. Additionally, the 1964 earthquake caused a massive landslide, completely blocking the pass and making it impossible to use. Today, Portage Pass remains an important historical site, showcasing the impact of transportation advancements on traditional travel routes.
