What you didn't know you needed to know 💩

It's strange just how much people are fascinated with where we poop and all the different kinds of bathroom alternatives that are offered when camping or glamping.

You have Cat-holing that is not always available, the people who use this method usually have to park next to a toilet. I have taken Bruno out early in the morning, just to get a glimpse of a shinny hinny doing their business at a campground. Not a good scene for Bruno and I.

Next is a Pit toilet these are similar to a vault toilet that the waste is collected into a large hole or large waste bucket these are also known as outhouses. Then you have Vault toilets that are just non-flush toilets with something to collect the waste.

I find this one quite fascinating it is the Incinerator toilets that just burns all the toxic waste into a little pile of ash. But could be very expensive to start and to repair if you have issues also the weight and space is not always convenient for smaller rigs.

Flush toilets are the most common in houses and RVs they do take water for each flush, this is not always beneficial since water is a hot commodity when RVing and in some households, next on the list are Portable toilets, these can take chemicals that can be emptied in most public bathrooms, just be careful since you do have chemicals to keep odor down, these must not be dumped in septic tanks (this will kill the enzymes needed for the health of the septic tanks)or pit toilets (this should never be mixed since the chemicals must not be combined! To anyone who has enjoyed a little chemistry class)

Then you have my favorite for glamping and that is Composting, you actually are not composting when RVing but if you live off-grid then yes it can be used as compost just remember if you eat meat it has to set longer then if you are a vegan other wise you are just using a separator or diverter that separates the urine from the poop. The urine mixed with the poop is what makes the awful odor and makes it a toxic waste that has to be properly disposed of.

Some of the things people use for the poop is coco core, horse bedding pellets, cat litter, cut-up newspaper, and just about anything that is absorbent and used for bedding for animals. The urine can be disposed of just about anywhere, as long as you follow the regulations of where you are camping. I am sure there are a lot of other options out there that people use, that are probably just as good as coco core.

Just a fun tidbit, it is quite entertaining to setback and watch the things that people do when dumping tanks! Some of the things I have witnessed is Non-Potable water being used to fill up the freshwater tanks 🤮 or a dryer hose used to dispose of waste from the black tank, and the list just goes on! I would also not recommend eating when watching just how ingenious some individuals are but a small trash can might be of use. Have a wonderful week and see you next time.
