Desert Love

Image
It's a fascinating paradox that even in the seemingly barren and desolate desert, there is still life and diversity to be found. The chirping of birds and the sight of cacti and bushes may seem insignificant, but they are a reminder that even in the most unlikely places, life can thrive. It's a testament to the resilience and adaptability of nature, and a reminder to always look beyond what meets the eye. There are the three main species of  "nurse" trees, so called because they provide almost everything it takes to survive in the desert. One species is the mesquite tree, which provides shelter and food for animals such as birds, insects, and small mammals. Another species is the ironwood tree, which provides shade and moisture for plants to grow beneath it. The third species is the palo verde tree, which has a symbiotic relationship with a type of fungi that helps it absorb water and nutrients from the desert soil. These trees are essential for the survival of many ...

Travel Days

Image
Travel days are a peaceful and reflective time, watching the world go by from the passenger window of a vehicle. It's a chance to disconnect from the rush of everyday life and appreciate the beauty of our surroundings. Travel days also offer the opportunity to meet new people and experience different cultures. It's a reminder that the world is a vast and diverse place, full of endless possibilities. The diversity in architecture and housing styles is also fascinating, with Colonial, Casitas, Adobe, Hacienda, Bungalow, Craftsman, and Earth homes all showcasing unique and beautiful designs. The array of colors used in these homes adds to the charm and character of the landscape, creating a visually stunning environment. The agricultural practices in this area are also noteworthy, with crops such as corn, soybeans, and wheat being grown, as well as livestock like cattle, goats and, sheep being raised. This provides an interesting glimpse into the local economy and way of life. Ren...

Traveling Louisiana

Grand Isle State Park   The sun is shining and the waves are gently crashing on the shore. I can't help but feel at peace and content in this familiar place. It's bittersweet though, as I am reminded of loved ones who are no longer here to enjoy these moments with me. But their spirits and the memories they left behind are still very much present, making this trip to Grand Isle all the more special. Despite the destruction caused by Hurricane Ida, Grand Isle still holds its charm and allure. The island has been a dream destination for many, including myself, to relive and reminisce about the past. However, the devastation caused by the hurricane is a harsh reminder of the power of nature. The recovery process has been slow, with only limited amenities available. This serves as a reminder of the fragility of life and how quickly things can change. But despite the challenges, Grand Isle remains a beautiful and captivating destination.  There is still beauty and wonder to be foun...

Traveling Florida

Image
Sitting at Fred Gannon State Park in Florida enjoying our way of life. We are listening to our neighbors' children making memories with their parents. Honestly, it is a beautiful and humbling experience to listen to them actually talking to one another and enjoying food together. I hear them talking while eating chips, candy, and apples. It amazes me, when some people are in tents, others are in large class A’s and they seem to be having the same experience, just laughing as they run around, biking, pulling wagons, and skating.  There is a very peaceful atmosphere around us as people of our age walk around waving at their neighbors, as they are humming and smiling very heartfelt and lovingly. I also enjoy watching people walk around without makeup and with hair that looks like a child, just watching people be happy with so little, makes my heart sing. Then I start giggling when I hear those my age and younger grunting, when they get up for reasons I totally understand, and y...
